OKENE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN HOSTS SECURITY MEETING AHEAD OF EBE FESTIVAL CELEBRATION
In a proactive effort to ensure a peaceful and secure Ebe Festival celebration, the Executive Chairman of Okene Local Government, Honourable Ahmed Nuhu Enesi, convened a high-level security meeting at the Local Government Secretariat.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the State Security Adviser Commodore Jerry Omodara, Officer In Charge (OIC) of the Quick Response Team Security Outfit, Obafemi Ojo, Traditional Rulers, Representatives of Custodians of Performing Masquerades, Heads of Security Agencies, and Local Government Officials.
In his opening remarks, Honourable Ahmed Nuhu Enesi emphasized that despite a recent security concern, Okene Local Government continues to enjoy relative peace.
However, he reiterated the state government's directive banning public gatherings and processions as a precautionary measure to curb potential security threats.
He further disclosed that His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, a strong advocate of cultural heritage, has granted permission for the Ebe Festival to hold, albeit under strict guidelines to maintain peace and order.
Delivering the Governor’s message, the State Security Adviser lauded the Chairman for his commitment to security and his alignment with the Governor’s security-conscious policies.
He urged all stakeholders to ensure that the festival is celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and compliance with established security measures.
To this end, the Chairman outlined the modalities to be adhered to by the Custodians and their Representatives:
1. A peace pact must be signed at the Local Government Secretariat, affirming a commitment to a violence-free celebration.
2. Public parades are prohibited; all masquerade performances must take place at designated spots without movement.
3. The use of firearms, gunshots, or fireworks is strictly forbidden.
4. All participants must adhere to the laid-down regulations to ensure a smooth and peaceful festival.
In a related development, the Commandant of the Kogi State Vigilante Group paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Ahmed Nuhu Enesi, reassuring him of the group’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties in the Local Government.
The Okene Local Government Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to collaborate with all security agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace, security, and cultural harmony in the local government.
