🚨 HOW MANY MORE LIVES MUST WE LOSE? 🚨
By Abdulwahab Ozigi Musa,
Majority Leader, Kogi State Youth Parliament.
Innocent people are dying on our highways because of reckless heavy-duty vehicles. Families are torn apart, dreams cut short, and yet, the same tragedies keep happening. How long will we stand by and do nothing?
The tragic accident in Lokoja has once again exposed the dangers on our roads, and I commend the Kogi State Government for swiftly responding to this crisis. His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo , has directed the State Ministry of Works to collaborate with the Federal Government to enforce speed limits along the Federal University Lokoja axis. Furthermore, efforts are underway to regulate heavy-duty truck movements during active hours of the day.
While this is a step in the right direction, more needs to be done to prevent future tragedies.
I am calling on the Kogi State House of Assembly to take further action and demand Federal intervention to regulate the movement of heavy-duty vehicles on our highways.
💠Imagine this:
Young students, full of potential, never make it home or to class because a reckless driver lost control. These are not just statistics; they are real people, real families, real pain.
🔴 The Solution is Clear:
✅ Enforce speed limits and stricter traffic laws around populated areas.
✅ Support the National Assembly bill restricting heavy-duty vehicles to nighttime operations.
✅ Strengthen traffic enforcement to crack down on reckless driving and overloading.
✅ Establish emergency response centers along accident-prone highways.
✅ Develop alternative transport routes to reduce the burden on our roads.
💬 How many more lives must be lost before we act?
This is not just about politics—it’s about human lives. Let’s demand change NOW!
