Kogi State Accountant-General, Hajia Habibat Oyiza Onumoko has congratulated all the newly elected 21 local government chairmen, their deputies and the 239 new ward Councilors on their victories at last Saturday’s election, noting that effective governance at the local level is crucial for the state and national development.
Speaking with Radio Kogi correspondent shortly after the inauguration ceremony in Government House, Lokoja, the Accountant General linked the party’s victory at the polls to the good works the administration of governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is doing, particularly at the grassroots level.
The Accountant General on behalf of the new chairmen thanked the governor for believing in them and for his support, which according to her was instrumental to their success.
She tasked the newly elected chairmen to live above board and ensure even development across all communities, and equitable distribution of resources.
Making reference to the popular saying that, “behind every successful man is a woman”, the Accountant General enjoined spouses to regard themselves as very critical to the success of their partner who holds political offices and, give them all necessary supports they require to succeed.
In her final note, the Accountant General urged the new Chairmen to be fair, firm and committed to uplifting the living standard of their people.
