As we approach the local government elections in less than 72 hours, it is a crucial time for us to unite and make our voices heard. Hon. Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem, the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs, has made a heartfelt appeal to all members of disabled community to support the candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
During a recent conference held at the Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs, Hon. Abdulhakeem engaged with various stakeholders within the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) community. He underscored the importance of inclusivity and highlighted the significant strides made by His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, since assuming office. Notably, the Governor's administration has appointed a person with a disability as the Executive Secretary of the Office for Disability Affairs, which is a tangible proof to the commitment to inclusivity.
Additionally, the administration has allocated 5% of the L-Pres project specifically for the disabled community, ensuring that our needs are recognized and addressed. Furthermore, the PWDs have been included in various initiatives such as the Kg-care program, the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, and scholarship opportunities. These programs reflect a genuine effort to uplift our community and ensure that we are not left behind.
In light of these advancements, we strongly encourage His Excellency to continue this momentum by advocating for key appointments for members of the disabled community across all 21 Local Government Areas. This step is essential for achieving total inclusion at every level of governance.
As we prepare for the elections, Hon. Yakubu Nazir emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and orderliness before, during, and after the voting process. Our active participation in this election is vital, as it will yield greater dividends of democracy for our community.
Let us come together to support the APC candidates for the betterment of our community. Your vote is not just a right; it is an opportunity to shape a future that recognizes and values all members of society, including those of us with disabilities.
Together, we can make a difference!
Hon. Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem (Brain Not Leg)
Executive Secretary,
Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs
