Okehi 2024: The Zoning Accord.

Okehi 2024: The Zoning Accord.

The geopolitical structure of Okehi Local Government stands on a well-orchestrated political marriage between the Eika and Ihima districts respectively. This structure, no doubt, birthed the political understanding between the duo districts with regards to the enthronement of leaders to the number one seat of the Local Government (Chairman) as well the  representation at the state Assembly.
Having understood the need for peaceful, fair succession plan, and the desire to keep strengthening the bond of brotherhood among the clans in Ihima, our fathers, most of whom were/are political veterans deemed zoning of elective positions fit for the six clans in Ihima district and have also made tremendous effort to ensure that the arrangement see the light of the day.

This arrangement saw to the ascension of Ure clan to the chairmanship position in 2003. This arrangement is indeed a strong confirmation of the foresightednes of our distinguished elders and statesmen in ensuring cohesion and peaceful coexistence among the clans.
Ihima district, comprising seven wards, stands as the largest among the eleven wards of Okehi Local Government Area with a template for power sharing particularly, the Chairmanship and House of Assembly seats among the six clans: Emani, Ure, Odumi, Ogu, Ohiongwa, and Oha.

In the current political dispensation, Ihima district is unprecedentedly blessed with a Senator, Honorable members at both State and National Assemblies. In addition to the mentioned exalted elective positions, the next executive chairman of Okehi LGA is bided to come from Ihima district.
At the instance of the chairmanship position where the zoning template deeply holds sway, it is evident that only Emani, Ogu, and Oha clans that are yet to clinch the number one seat (Chairman) of Okehi LGA.

However, two of the trio mentioned clans that are yet to be elected into the chairmanship position of Okehi LGA currently hang the revered toga of a Senator (Emani) and State Assembly Member (Ogu) leaving only Oha without the an elective position in Ihima.
Sequel to the foregoing state of the political affairs of Ihima, coupled with the herculean effort of our fathers and statesmen to have one united Ihima where equity and justice run the fabrics of our existence, we hereby appeal to the authorities (Government, traditional rulers, youth organizations, political leaders and other allied stakeholders) to consider Oha clan for the forthcoming chairmanship election in Okehi.

This, will no doubt balance the distribution of political/elective appointments in the district, give deeper voice to the zoning template and also give sense of belonging to OHA clan amidst his other brothers and strengthen the bond of oneness among all the clans in Ihima.
