No fewer than 20 support groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the 5 local government areas in Kogi central converged at the popular Agassa junction in Okene as early as 7a.m today to join the Directors of Local Government and the Treasurers of Local Government in the area to embark on solidarity walk to canvass support and throw their weight behind the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.
They walked through the ever-busy Okene market (Ohu Bariki), to the popular Idoji junction, and marched through Okene Public Library, terminating the road walk at Okene Local Government Secretariat.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajia Habibat Onumoko who is the Host, in her address, thanked the people for their support for the government of Alh. Yahaya Bello over the years, assuring them of a better rewarding future with the APC.
She said APC's door is still widely open for those who are still in other political parties to come in and join hands with Governor Yahaya Bello for the overall development of the state.
"APC's door is still open for all. Tribalism and religion should not be the guage for electing leaders."
She pleaded with the people to support Alh. Ododo based on his track records, antecedents and competence, noting that Governor Yahaya Bello's achievements in security, education, health, youth/women empowerment, among others remain models for successive administrations in the state.
"The tenure of Governor Yahaya Bello is characterized by series of laudable projects, including infrastructure, state university in each of the senatorial district, improved healthcare sector, and massive investment in the security apparatus in the state. Before 2015, our people can not sleep with their two eyes closed because of insecurity in the state".
She enjoined the people to support the candidate of the APC, positing that the party is well grounded in all the parts of the state.
"APC has come to stay in Kogi state. It's only those who are disconnected with local politics in Kogi state will say Ododo cannot win Kogi State Governorship seat."
The Perm. Sec. charged the people of the area who are yet to collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs) to do so to enable them vote during the November 11 election in the state.
