OPINION
The word "kayanmata" is originally a Hausa conjoined word of "Kayan" and "Mata" which literally translates to mean "women stuffs", but however, socially means aphrodisiac or sexual enhancement.
Kayan Mata is a group of traditional medicines used by women in different forms as sexual pleasure, enhancers, or aphrodisiacs in northern Nigeria. However, it has now spread to some southern parts of the country. Aphrodisiacs are any food, drink, drug, scent, or device that increases sexual performance. Several cultures used various substances for such purposes.
Most users are northern women. There are different routes of administration, but the main ones are the oral and virginal routes. The oral route type taken through the mouth is primarily in liquid form. The oral Kayan Mata includes Aya (Tiger nut), Dabino (dates), onions, watermelon, and moringa seeds. As stated, Kayan Mata can be harmful or beneficial.
The oral Kayan Mata can be termed beneficial because its ingredients are fruits. Fruits like watermelon contain citrulline that has an effect on sexual drive.
The virginal route of administration includes the introduction of substances into the vagina. As opposed to the oral route, the substance may be liquid or gas. In the administration of the gaseous substance, woman is asked to burn certain herbs and allow the smoke to enter her vagina. However, some liquid substances are inserted into the vagina while some are introduced through a Sitz bath. Each substance belongs to a certain category based on its purpose of use.
For instance, Dan Matsi (Tightness), the first category of Kayan Mata, is thought to increase the tightness of the vagina almost equal to a virgin. Dan Matsi is usually used after delivery or by aged women .
The second category, called Karya Gado (Break a bed), is used to increase sexual pleasure to a partner.
Before a woman is taken to her matrimonial home, she will be taken to “Wajen Gyaran Jiki”, a place for preparing her body and paid for by the husband. At Wajen Gyaran Jiki, the preparation includes skincare, but the Kayan Mata are also included.
This practices complications and adverse effects include vaginal itching, vaginal discharge due to infection, burning sensation, and excessive bleeding after delivery.
In addition, the efficacy of these substances is not well established, but the users claimed to be efficacious based on anecdotal evidence.
Since Kayan Mata is made out of fruits, herbs and natural spices, it is, for the most part, healthy. There have been controversies about the effects of Kayan Mata products in tying down men without their consent or inducing possessiveness. This points to the use of voodoo in the making. Though, vendors claim that this is untrue, it is best to take care.
If you want to use Kayan Mata to enhance your sexual pleasure, the best advice is to be careful of your sources and what exactly make up the ingredients.
Infection
Using kayamata can very well introduce some kind regards of infection like vagina yeast infection to your body. In other words, your use of kayamata may be the reason for your recurrent vaginal candidiasis or recurrent vaginal discharge.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Still about infection but I decided to separate it because this is very important… Pelvic inflammatory disease is the cause of infertility in 1 in 10 women globally according to Mayoclinic.. Women who flagrantly use kayamata are at a great risk of introducing bacteria inside their bodies and as a result develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). The symptoms of PID are: fever, vaginal discharge, foul vaginal odour, pain during intercourse, irregular menstrual periods and tubal tubal blockage.
Liver Failure
Kayamata is a herbal preparation which just like every other drug is excreted by the liver. The ingredients or byproducts in kayanmata may be toxic or poisonous to the liver and this can lead to liver failure.
Kidney Failure
The kidneys also excreted ingested herbal preparations… The toxic by products that my be present in the sex enhancer called kayamata can shut down the kidneys leading to kidney failure.
Drug Interactions
Some drugs should never be taken together with some herbal products or concoctions… Kanyanmata can negatively interact with some blood pressure or diabetic drugs which may result in drug toxicity or drug inefficacy.
Allergy
Do you know if you are allergic to kayamata? There are been reported cases of ladies rushed to the hospital after taking kayamata due to some life threatening allergies.
Blood poisoning
Though this side effect has not been reported but it can never be totally ruled out. Inserting kayamata can lead certain level if the active agent leaking into the blood resulting in life threatening complications like blood poisoning and blood infections (sepsis)
Injury
As a woman, inserting kayamata in your body can lead to serious injuries and ulcers in your private part and pubic region.
Dryness
It is true that kayamata may cause you dryness and pain during intimacy. Some women say kayamata makes them feel and it does not work for them.
