In its unflinching bid to empower young women through digital innovation, The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), with support from Lenovo has on Tuesday flagged off its second phase program for training 70 young women in Kano State.
The program tagged ‘Digital Creativity and Innovation for Young Women (DICI-YOW)’ is targeted at empowering young girls to be self-reliant and as well to creators of employment.
While speaking during the orientation program organized for the participants, CITAD’s Executive Director, Dr. Yunusa Ya'u hinted that, the program is designed to empower young girls with access to digital skills which he said that they can use to not only sustain themselves, but as well reduce the poverty rate in the country.
Ya’u explained further that the program is scheduled to span for 9 months, with its first phase scheduled for training of basic skills, while two months would be for digital entrepreneurship skills, and three months for conceiving and implementing business plans/ideas.
He added that at the end of the training, the Centre expects every participant to have a business plan and skills ready in order to exploit business opportunities.
“We would have the business registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and other business regulatory agencies.
"Also, by extension we would have pitched the business to be suitable for investors to fund” Ya’u said.
The CITAD boss also noted that at the end of the training, CITAD will empower participants who successfully pass the scheduled tests.
He then admonished the participants to use the skills acquired productively, while also charging them to explore digital skills in order to develop a self means of livelihood and be employers of labour.
